Nantymoel RFC Women v Treorchy RFC Ladies

Nantymoel RFC Ladies narrowly missed out on a win against Treorchy RFC Ladies losing 14 - 15 despite missing several players who started the previous match against Wattstown.

At the start of the game Nantymoel were caught cold and went behind early in the match conceding a try that went uncoverted. But Nantymoel regrouped and with number 8 Rhian Owen putting in some huge tackles and making good yardage with ball in hand, especially from the back of the scrum, Nantymoel were soon on the front foot and threatening the Treorchy line.

The first (ever) score for Nantymoel went to captain Sadie Bishop, who also converted, after 2nd row Emma Hill broke through a tackle and raced up field. On being tackled, the ball was then quickly recycled by the forwards and the ball got to Bishop who jinked over the line to score under the posts. And just before half time with Treorchy trying to run the ball out of their 22, Sadie Bishop ripped the ball off a Treorchy player in the tackle and again when under the posts to put Nantymoel into a 14 - 5 lead. time.

Nantymoel should have scored again early in the 2nd half with prop Sarah Jane Lever picking the ball up from the back of the ruck and powered into the Treorchy 22 handing off opposition players on the way. However, when the ball was recycled after Lever was stopped short of the line, Sadie Bishop cut back into traffic instead of sending the ball wide and the try scoring position was lost. A try here would have surely secured the win.

However, in the final quarter of the game Nantymoel were harshly reduced to 14 players when Emma Hill was yellow carded for a high tackle and Nantymoel had to finish the game with 14 players.

During this final period Treorchy piled on the pressure and with Nantymoel conceding possession, terrotry and penalties Treorchy run in two further unconverted tries the last one right on the final whistle to lose the game 14 - 15.

Special mention must go to Lucy Cosker playing in the centre of the back line who impressed in the absence of both Elinor Hughes and Emma Turner who were both missing with injuries and Michelle Card in the pack.
