Nantymoel RFC Women v Wattstown RFC Women

Nantymoel RFC Women played their first competitive match against a well drilled Wattstown team. Despite the wet weather both teams were greeted onto the field by a a packed Nantymoel Park.

Playing up the slope in the first half the inexperienced Nantymoel team failed to retain any sort of possession when they had the ball and had to put in a solid defensive display with huge tackles being put in to stop the Wattstown Women in their tracks.

The second half continued in the same pattern with Nantymoel failing to keep hold of the ball when they had it and having to put their bodies on the line again and again to keep Wattstown out.

But as the second half wore on and with tired bodies on the Nantymoel side, Wattstown run in three late tries to make the score line 0 - 15 which flattered the visitors.

However, the effort and commitment put in by the Nantymoel Women can not be underestimated and if they all stick together they will soon turn the corner and registered their first win. We mustn't forget this was their first game and the majority of the squad have never played rugby prior to pre-season training this year.

Special mention must go to Chelsea Williams, Sadie Bishop and Elinor Hughes in the back line and Lowri Reeves, Kathryn Squeak and Sarah Jane Lever in the pack who stood out on the day.
