Nantymoel RFC v Penlan RFC

Nantymoel RFC registered their first league win of the season on Saturday 03 October 2015 when the entertained Penlan RFC at home.

After going behind to an early Penlan penalty, Nantymoel dominated the rest of the first half.

The first points for Nantymoel went to number 8 Sion Hunnam from a scrum which the Nantymoel pack won against the head and proceeded to drive the Penlan forwards over their own try line for Hunnam to touch down which was then converted by outside half Rhys Anderson.

Nantymoels second try went to centre Timmy Clemett after some good interplay by the Nantymoel back line, full back Andrew Thomas broke the Penlan defence for Clemett to score under the posts giving Anderson another easy conversion to make the score 14 - 3 to the home side.

Nantymoels third try was soon registered after some sustained pressure and some good offloading in contact the ball went along the back line for flanker turned winger Rhys Bevan to score his try which Anderson again converted.

Two penlaties from Penlan and one for Anderson took the score to 24 - 9.

However, Penlan then come back into the game scoring two tries of their own the first coming from a lineout on the Nantymoel 5 meter line which they initially stopped but the Penlan kept the pressure on and scored in the corner. Their second try come form a counter attack with some good off loading. This then made the score 24 - 19 and not only did Penlan have a losing bonus point at this stage they were also pushing for the win.

But the gane was made safe and the losing bonus point snatch from Penlan from the boot of Anderson who slottd over his second penalty of the game to leave the final score Nantymoel 27 Penlan 19.

This was definately a game of two halfs with Nantymoel controlling the 1st half and having to grind out the 2nd. Nantymoel seemed to take their foot of the gas after running into a 21 - 3 lead but did finish the game strongly as they looked to secure the win and look for their fourth try which would have earned them a bonus point but it wasn't to be.

Next up for Nantymoel is an away trip to Brynamman RFC on Saturday 10 October 2015..
